The Peer Learning Network is pleased to announce the speakers for the final event of the 2011-2012 season.

Mr. Brian Davis Oklahoma City Thunder TV Play by Play Announcer and Mr. Toby Rowland "The Voice of the Sooners" will present on the topic of Ethical Leadership in Professional Sports.

Brian Davis has been the Television Play by Play Announcer for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team for the past three seasons. Davis regularly covered the Chicago Bulls during the Michael Jordan era and became a contributor to NBA Radio, hosting game broadcasts and serving as sideline reporter for the network during the 1991 playoffs and NBA Finals. He later hosted Bulls broadcasts on FSN Chicago and occasionally called Sonics games in Seattle. He has an extensive play-by-play resume at the college level, including the Big Ten, Pac-10, Conference USA and the Mid-American Conference.

Toby Rowland was named the "Voice of the Sooners" in the fall of 2011. Having started with News 9 in 1999, Toby Rowland is an Emmy award winning sports reporter and the face of Oklahoma high school sports coverage. In 2009, Rowland also became the voice of the Sooner sidelines. He is the game day sideline reporter for both television and radio broadcasts for the University of Oklahoma football, basketball, baseball and softball. Rowland won the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters award for "Best Sportscast" in 2004, the Society of Professional Journalist award for "Best Sports Reporting" in 2005, an Emmy award for the 2005 Orange Bowl Blitz, an Emmy nomination in 2000, and an Emmy award for his feature on the Endeavor Games in 2010.

Tom Ward to Speak at SNU’s Peer Learning Network 

On Thursday, February 9th, The Peer Learning Network at Southern Nazarene University will be hosting Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sandridge Energy, Tom L. Ward at The Petroleum Club in downtown Oklahoma City.

"Mr. Tom Ward is a leader of leaders in the Energy field and the corporate community at large. Our Peer Learning Network partners and guests will benefit greatly from his insights into building and sustaining great businesses of integrity,” said Dr. Terry Toler, VP of University Advancement and Church Relations.

Prior to Sandridge Energy Ward served as President, Chief Operating Officer, and a Director of Chesapeake Energy Corporation from the time he co-founded the company with Aubrey K. McClendon in 1989 until February 2006. In 2000, Mr. Ward and his son, Trent, co-founded White Fields, Inc., a home for severely abused and neglected boys.

Ward will be speaking from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Petroleum Club Downtown Oklahoma City as a part of SNU’sPeer Learning Networkspeaker series. Peer Learning Network Presents Eric Alexander

November 3, 2011, The Peer Learning Network at Southern Nazarene University hosted climber, speaker and author, Eric Alexander on the campus of Southern Nazarene University. Awards Dan Cathy Leadership Scholarship

Southern Nazarene University student, Khortnie Neal, is the first recipient of the Dan Cathy Leadership Scholarship. 

Southern Nazarene University, The Zig Ziglar Center for Ethical Leadership and the Peer Learning Network awarded the Dan Cathy Leadership Scholarship to Khortnie K. Neal, a Junior at Southern Nazarene University, in recognition of Mr. Cathy’s presentation at Peer Learning Network. Neal, an outstanding accounting major from Oklahoma City, was chosen to receive the scholarship due to her superior work ethic and high GPA within the School of Business.

“I am so excited and grateful to have received this scholarship. It was an honor to meet Mr. Cathy and hear his perspective on running a successful business,” said Neal.

This one-time scholarship was awarded to the outstanding junior business major, nominated by the faculty of the School of Business. The funding for this scholarship was provided by Peer Learning Network in honor of Dan Cathy. As COO of Chik-fil-A, Cathy and Chik-fil-A have awarded over $28,000,000 in scholarships to students across the United States.

New Speakers and Venue Announced for Peer Learning Network

The Zig Ziglar Center for Ethical Leadership at Southern Nazarene University presents the Peer Learning Network Schedule for the 2011-2012 academic year.

In addition to the new speaker schedule, The Petroleum Club was announced as a new venue for many of the Peer Learning sessions. The Petroleum Club is located at 1000 N. Broadway Ave., in downtown Oklahoma City.

Dan Cathy will be speaking at the first Peer Learning Network session at The Petroleum Club on September 22, 2011. Cathy is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Chick-fil-A, Inc. His lifelong career at Chick-fil-A began at the age of 9 as he sang songs for customers. Since that time, Cathy has served as Senior Director of Operations, Vice President of Operations and Executive Vice President prior to being named President and COO in 2001.

Eric Alexander will be speaking on November 3, 2011 on the campus of SNU in the Royce Brown Business Building from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Alexander is a world-class skier, climber, mountaineer, and speaker, on achieving his goals while playing an instrumental role in helping others to achieve their own. Most recently he defied the odds and scaled Mt. Everest with his blind friend, Erik Weihenmayer. When not instructing disabled skiers in Colorado, Eric directs Adventures Beyond Limits, an organization that educates and encourages youth with disabilities in the outdoors. Alexander is the author of “The Summit” and has an outstanding ability to relate his exciting journey and challenge audiences to set and achieve their personal and corporate goals.

Tom Ward will be the speaker on February 9, 2012 at The Petroleum Club. Ward has served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SandRidge Energy, Inc since June 2006. Leadership Northwest Visits the Ziglar Center

Members of The Northwest Chamber of Commerce program, Leadership Northwest, were on campus this week (or Wednesday, September 15, 2010) for this year’s opening session hosted by the Zig Ziglar Center for Ethical Leadership. Leadership Northwest is a program developed by the Northwest Chamber of Commerce that seeks to inform, motivate, and better prepare its participants to take on leadership roles in service to the community.

The opening program was facilitated by Ziglar Center executive director, Tony Griffin. Griffin commented that “the Northwest Chamber does an excellent job of equipping leaders for positive change in our community. Jill McCartney is an enthusiastic leader that has our community’s best at heart. Plus it couldn’t be a better group of leaders. This year’s group includes our own, Dr. Mary Jones.”

Leadership Northwest participants come from a variety of backgrounds including business, education, government and non-profit organizations. Each class is unique and commits to a special project for the benefit of the community.

Ziglar Center Peer Learning Network Welcomes John King

BETHANY, Okla. (September 9, 2010) - Southern Nazarene University will be hosting John King on campus, Thursday, September 30, 2010. King will be speaking in the Peer Learning Network sessions from 8:00am-11:00am in the Royce Brown Building.

King is co-founder and senior partner of CultureSync, a management consulting firm that focuses on Leadership, Strategy, Cultural Change and Executive Coaching. The firm has worked with dozens of Fortune 500 companies on the connection between business culture and performance.

King has co-authored two books, Tribal Leadership, published by HarperCollins and The Coaching Revolution, a book presenting the author’s best practices in the realm of executive coaching. He also founded the CultureSync Academy, offering leadership training modules and coaching certification courses in the Tribal Leadership Method.

King is a keynote speaker, and is nationally recognized as a senior teacher, coach, and program leader. Clients of his coaching practice have been featured on all major television networks and in The Wall Street Journal. He is part of the leadership development team at Sierra Health Foundation and has trained at Collier’s University, CB Richard Ellis University, and The California Leadership Institute. King is also a frequent guest lecturer in the Marshall School of Business and the School of Public Policy, Planning, and Development at USC.

SNU Zig Ziglar Center Hosts "Peacemaking For Business" Workshop

BETHANY, Okla. (September 13, 2010) - The Zig Ziglar Center for Ethical Leadership at Southern Nazarene University is hosting the Oklahoma Business Ethics Consortium as they present “Peacemaking for Business.” Sessions will be held in the Royce Brown building on the SNU campus from 5:30pm-7:30pm on October 12, 19, 26, and November 2 facilitated by Mr. Bill Blew.

Blew is a former Oklahoma District Court Judge and a graduate of Rhodes College and Vanderbilt School of Law with extensive experience in conflict resolution. He is also founder and executive director of The Olive Branch; a non-profit ministry that helps people find peace in relationships by teaching them how to deal with conflict from a biblical perspective.

“Peacemaking for Business” focuses on resolving the central issues of conflict while helping individuals preserve and restore lasting, healthy relationships. The course is recommended for anyone desiring to develop personal skills in the area of conflict resolution and relationship restoration, particularly business leaders, owners and human resources professionals. Oklahoma Business Ethics Consortium on Campus 

The Zig Ziglar Center for Ethical Leadership at Southern Nazarene University will host the Oklahoma Business Ethics Consortium's Ethics Challenge Workshop on Saturday, April 17 from 9am-11am in Webster Commons. This workshop will include a demonstration of the new Ethics Challenge format which seeks to include undergraduate students from Oklahoma colleges and universities in an interactive student competition that promotes ethical business conduct. According to Dr. Tony Griffin, Executive Director of the Ziglar Center, "We expect this event to be well attended and it presents an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about an outstanding program offered through the Oklahoma Business Ethics Consortium."
